Release details here:

Please keep in mind this is a very early alpha prototype. There are a stack of changes due to go in, but with the standalone due any day, we decided to release early and see what people made of the first early release.

    I was playing your server all night, and came across 2 players repairing a bus. Tracked them from the Factory near Polana, killed one with a hatchet. Then heard the other running up from the side, and we broke each others legs. I had a revolver secondary so after we both crawled away from each other I got up and shot him.

    I was promptly kicked from the server, tried getting back on a few times. Was pretty fun, but kinda bullshit getting kicked/banned for that.

      That’s strange ash, no admins were on there (I went to sleep and just got back home from being out all morning). The only thing running is anti-hack, what sort of message did you get?

        I think it was called script restriction 45. I tried logging in about 3 more times and kept getting it. Could see the chat while it was loading in and talk, not sure if anyone could see my text though.

        The two guys I killed were saying in chat that there’s a bus and full gear where I had killed them though :x

    BMRF is running a whitelist server which I’ve been playing on quite a lot. The biggest problem I have, and that most people seem to have on our forum is that the game really lacks purpose now.
    Once you get the magical triad of hatchet, knife and matches survival still isn’t any harder yet. I found one of those Hobo backpacks and I loaded it up with extra sets of each as I found them while travelling, and I gave a couple away to bambi’s on the coast until I realised that I was depriving them of the only real survival challenge that the mod offers so far.

    I love that after a couple of days I’m still running around with my trusty Lee Enfield, which I’ve given a name and grown quite attached to, but I’m just not sure what to do with myself.

    I’ve found a few chopper crash sites, but they never seem to spawn anything, and I’m concerned that they give the wrong impression. The seem to suggest that that 2017 has the same purpose as vanilla DayZ, even though the goal is to move away from loot hoarding.

    I really like 2017, but there are some things I think would improve the experience. I don’t know where else to make the suggestions so… here I go. These are just my personal thoughts, but I do hope someone sees them.

    I think immersion is important. I would start by increasing the glow and smoke that campfires create. It should be a bit more risky to light a campfire. Make the smoke go twice as high at least. Maybe even double the glow range… it’s kinda measly right now.

    Another thing I would do to improve the experience is less animals. Less not none. Make it harder to survive without eating people or zombies. Eating zombie flesh should be very risky, possible make you sick. That might already be in there, but I haven’t gotten sick yet so that’s why I’m bringing it up. Plus, I think there should be a cannibal skin. Make ‘em gross, dirty, and grimy.

    Another thing is weather. I’m a big fan of movies like The Road and The Book of Eli. The weather in those makes you feel like the world is dying. In fact that’s kind of a big theme in The Road. Darker grayer days is what I would go for. Not necessarily tons of fog, but more than average would be neat. Plus it would discourage sniping a bit. Not that I have anything against sniping. Less than regular DayZ is just more interesting is all. I do understand that fog drives away players though, and that may never end up being a thing.

    The last thing that occurs to me right now is the guns. I like what’s been done already to make 2017 less of a sniper hunt. I’ve been told the CZ 550 is in there but I haven’t seen it yet. It ought to be out there in my opinion if it’s not already. I do believe that the M1014 and the 870 should be around. People have shotguns that aren’t double barrels, it’s a fact of life, and variety is the spice of life right? People also have 9mm and things in real life. It’s pretty common. More so than revolvers I think. So I would throw in M9s and G17s. I think a military sniper or 2 with anything but dmr ammo would be a good thing. Don’t want people doing the infinite ammo glitch. That’s already an issue with the M14s. I also think—and this is just my opinion— that there ought to be a few VERY rare military weapons that spawn. M16 or variants, maybe an M249. Nothing silenced. It would be something like running into a sort of boss, and it would be terrifyingly hard to be hunted by all the people coveting your super rare military hardware.

    Anyways, I want to get back to playing so.. there’s my 2 cents.
