Well I have not even got round to posting this to my own site yet!
A new project (as if I did not have enough on already)….
5 years on in Chernarus.
Now only a handful of survivors are left and they are much more hardened, ragged bunch.
Gone are the military grade weapons, the helicopters, and scarce is the food and medical supplies.
Living off the land is more of a needed skill then zeroing a sniper rifle. You’re much more likely to die to a machete attack over a can of beans, then an AS50 from 700m away.
Things are going to be hard in this port. It won’t be for everyone.
I wanted to do this after seeing what I did not like so much in Celle. With Celle in hindight I think I put too much in. I now want to go back to basics and really focus on what made rockets mod really tick with players, and that was scarcity and threat.
I have some modeling to do (females), but there are five survivor models who all look like characters from ‘The Road’ or the ‘Book of Eli’. Quite a few other plans, but I will see if I can get basics working first before saying anymore.
Looks very nice, I am excited to get my hands on it
Thanks Lionel. I will let you know on here when we release.
Your pictures really evoke a strong sense of isolation and loneliness.
It would be great to play a map that requires you to hunt – although I hope you don’t take the Namalsk route and make animals incredibly rare.
Hi,
The plan is to up the animal population by just a bit (enough so that it is possible to eat if you make the effort).
regards,
shin

That’s that DayZ should have been in the first place.
Don’t you have a Twitter or something so I can know when it’s ready?
I will try and open an account and get back to you
Looks really promising! Love the way its going! Keep up the good work
Thanks Chris!

Have you consider make it standalone and opensource? I think engines like cube 2 can match with your requirements.
Anyway your work is awesome! Congratulations!
Hi,
I might be to green to develop with a new engine. Currently trying to learn unity3d. Thanks for the feedback!
shinkicker.
This is what I’ve always wanted from Dayz, I used to play in the early days of the mod and though I still enjoyed the game, I never liked the PvP direction it took as much as I think I would of enjoyed would could of been!.
The one thing I’d really like to see is Zombies being a proper threat, maybe not all villages should spawn them, but interacting/trying to avoid around zombies should be dangerous, not DayZ dangerous, but truly ‘I really don’t want to go close to that town’ dangerous. Hopefully this would force people together a bit more rather than them just killing each other then dealing with the Zombies.
One feature we are doing (the rest needs testing first) is new spawns won’t have a bandage. I don’t like the way everyone just blatantly runs into town not giving a crap if they get hit as they have loads of blood and can stop and bandage up, Its much to unreal.

i love your idea’s dude.. it fits my idea’s of what life around zombies would be like .. not clean shirts and caps but .. unclean raggy clothes..
i was also thinking as you are going away from military, how about making airfields into civ airports with crashed 747′s etc and maybe enterable planes, not flyable, but searchable.
Point noted on the planes, and I will put on ‘look into’ list. thanks for the feed back
Hey! The concept of this mod sounds very great!
Suggestion: Maybe you could add some post processing like in Eagle Wing. Maybe not that extreme, but a subtle use of it? It really enhanced the atmosphere in that campaign.
Very good suggestion and I know just what you mean by eagle wing (I loved that mission), we are working on something to change the dynamics which is very much of this ilk.
Looks great and i cant wait to play it. I have a suggestion, seeing as though an infection wiped everything out mostly….this infection needs to be a huge part of the game, im talking 1 scratch off a zombie and you become infected (28 days later). You then have 5 hours game time to try and sort yourself out. Others players can also catch the infection of infected players..this could be shown by a playing coughing (or a new sound effect), if worked properly it could make situations like from the film “The Thing” where players are nervous when coming into contact with a new player because they are not sure if they carry the infection. This whole idea would make zombie encounters terrifying…imagine being chased by a zombie knowing just one scratch could give you the infection.
I love you ideas and we will look into this. It might need quite a lot of development, but its worth a look. I also know rocket is very much using disease and virus in infections in the standalone, so its a great idea.

Teah, that’s as close to my idea for a post apocalypse zombie survival game as I’ve seen, can’t wait to play it
Thanks wabbit
Hi there, mod is looking fantastic and sounds really promising so far. What I think would be fabulous while creating the player/weapon models is to take some inspiration from the game Fallout 3. That game had some pretty decent looking Raider (or Bandit if you will) and survivor clothing, and the nice post-apocalyptic looking weapons weren’t bad either!
Just a little suggestion I thought I’d add out there.
Very much VonTawast. I loved the raiders in FO3 and I am currently working on bandits and this is an influence. I also would like weapon degradation as FO3 has too.
Thanks for the feedback
!
How do you plan to handle hoarding?
One of the main problems that I have with DayZ is the way in which new items are constantly spawned and then ‘filtered’ through players to retain only the best loot… There’s a steady and inexorable rise toward high-end gear, and you eventually reach a point where players just ignore the vast majority of low to medium level weapons and ammunition.
You mentioned resources being scarce, but no matter how rare you make them you’ll only prolong, not eliminate, that filtering process. Unless you can think of some clever mechanism to remove high-end equipment from the game as fast (or faster) than it’s created.
My preference would be something like:
Low End Gear – Spawns faster than it’s removed
Medium Level Gear – Balanced add/remove rates
High End Gear – Removed faster than it spawns
In principal this would maintain high-end gear’s rarity, but for the life of me I can’t think of a mechanism that isn’t brutally artificial (item breakage), or just likely to annoy the hell out of players (no tents, no storage beyond inventory).
Yes, that is a flaw with the spawning system and well observed, without a rewrite there is not much that can be done at present, but I will look into it. Its a very valid point.
The other thing I would like is weapon degradation (aka fallout), but again needs a bit of coding and I need to rush this out before standalone.
Well one of the thing I have considered for a next edition is food is perishable, so you should not be able to keep cooked / raw steaks in the back of a car to eat when you want.
Thanks for you input!
I’ve been thinking about this problem a -lot- recently, knowing that you were working on this mod and that there might still be a chance for a good idea to get some traction. Yesterday I had a “eureka!” moment, and I’ve been fleshing it out a little more today.
Instead of trying to restrict the high, medium and low-end weaponry, how about restricting the ammunition? It’s five years later right? Presumably there are no more conveniently full magazines just laying around… Imagine instead that every time you encountered a magazine in DayZ, you’d instead be finding a single live round in DayZ 2017.
The rounds would be stored as separate variables in a secondary menu, similar to what Tonic has done with food, water and money in his Wasteland mission, so you’d see something like:
4 x 7.62x51mm
11 x 7.62x39mm
6 x 5.56x45mm
3 x .45 ACP
14 x 9x19mm
22 x 9x18mm
After each ammo type you’d have two buttons:
[CREATE MAGAZINE] [DROP]
Creating a magazine lets you select the type, so for 9x18mm that’d be Makarov or PP-19 Bizon… For 7.62x51mm it would be DMR or M24, etc.
So it either creates a single full magazine of the nominated type, if enough rounds are available, or places whatever rounds are available into a partial magazine. And it’s in creating the magazine that the bullets become regular ArmA II ammunition again.
The [DROP] option is there so you can create a single neat pile of ammunition for trading with other players, because here’s the fun part: They can’t just shoot you and loot all your ammo…
When you shoot someone their ammunition will all spill onto the ground (again like food, water and money in Wasteland). Lots of tiny little bullets spread out all over the forest floor in about a 3 or 4 meter radius. So they can have your precious ammunition if they feel safe enough to spend a good few minutes trying to find and collect it all, being very vulnerable in the process, and probably missing some of it anyway.
It would hopefully make trading preferable to murder in some cases.
People will still collect guns, but choosing which ones to use, and which to leave behind would be a much more thoughtful process. And ammo could still be stored in tents as regular ArmA II magazines, assuming they don’t refill on server restarts (although I’m not sure why you’d want to, since it really would be safer in your ammo pouch).
Its a really good point TheCaptn. I did have someone on the team that was going to look to splitting up magazines and clips into single bullets, but nothing ever came of it. Hopefully that might happen still in the next release. I might do it myself if I get time.
you’ve most likely been asked this before, but, any ETA on some sort of release? even if it’s only a beta version.
looks pretty good from what i’ve seen so far, cant wait to get my hands on it.
Hopefully in one week from now
Shinkicker, your my only hope as no one else seems to get what lack of everything brings.Lately I have been so immersed into this 1st person server I have been joining to see if I like being locked into 1st person. After a full day on it totally immersed I ask in side chat if loot tables have been severely reduced as my precious Enfield was low on ammo. The local populace told me “no its just that the server is rarely reset”.Just a small tweak like that and the game becomes immersive.I go back to the hive servers and lose this feeling.
Thanks wolfstriked. I hope that becomes the case with this port.
This seems awesome, i have never killed a player in dayz and that seems to be a general idea in this mod
If you make a trailar or something like that
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmVAWKfJ4Go
Wow seems amazing.I don’t like the disease idea tho cause the zombies run. It’s very op for them to run AND infect.I LOVE the car and the models are amazing.Keep up the good work.
Loving the way that a developer of a “new” mod interacts with people.
Thanks for thinking about the community. And btw, i think, for the pictures of the cars, you can’t see very much from the inside of the car, maybe make a bigger square on the front? And yeah, a disease would be awesome!
Keep up the good work.
Rookie Portuguese programmer java/vb/pascal Joao
Thank for your comment Joao, good luck with the dev work!
Hey, this mod is looking great and I can’t wait.
A few suggestions though:
Can you make the cars fully animated? For example, getting into a car.
Are you going to make jerry cans more rare? After 5 years of decay, most of them will probably have rusted away.
Also, are you going to make it able to push an immobile car? As above, if gascans are rarer, it will be more necessary to push a car to the pumps. Are you going to animate that too?
Are you going to turn on the street lights at night? Because, in most cities 1. they have back up streetlight power, and 2. surely outside of Celle and Chernarus, the rest of the East European bloc are still generating power, or can you turn on power stations?
What military gear is still there, are you planning to add new types of storage?
And, finally, surely as a survivor you would be prepared with a map and basics before you leave home to rface the zombies? Just saying.
Cheers,
Hi,
You made some cool suggestions there. I especially like being able to push the car, so if someone runs out of fuel or finds a disrepaired car, they can move it to safey, go off on foot, and then return to collect later. Nice!
As far as putting these into the mod, I am very limited by time, esp with the standalone coming out any day soon.
The first release will be an alpha to see how it goes, and it won’t be too different to standard dayz, apart from rarity of guns, ammo, food and of course the new models.
Thanks
sk
I think you should do away with Dayz’s way of removing color with bloodloss and instead stick to a color amount that is halfway between what you see now when deathly ill and at full health.Really adds to the apocalypse feel IMO.
I’m staying up to date with this mod, reading the comments and checking up on the website every now or then. I’m very excited for this, and the stand-alone, to say the least. Keep up the good work and lets get to an eventual release.
I think in this you should be able to have a house, and to improve it as time goes on (make it zombie proof if you would like) and even repair doors in it have a basement as a hideaway.
The infection thing is a good idea as long as the zombie arent like the dayz ones, where they mostly teleport or dont die when you shoot them the zombies also have commando pro in dayz.. so if you could do the infection thing but not have messed up zombies it would be good.
It looks and sounds awesome.
I can’t wait to play it.
Looking forward for this to come out, looks awesome! I keep checking to see if its released yet but haven’t heard anything lately.
Love the progress. Just an idea, how about being able to leave notes and stick polaroid pictures to the notes. giving it more lore made by the players.
Also would love to see spray paint! (-washes away when it rains, other wise it would ruin a map! but stuff on the inside is left on) I mean that would be a real bonus. leaving warnings sprayed on by survivors. or with the car I noticed it was rusty, maybe if you found a spray can you could give it a paint job! -mechanics on how to apply spray paint: make it an equipable item and to spray you just hold and point! I would love to see what players do with it!
